Summary

It was a lifetime ago that recently widowed Maggie Flynn was in Wyndham Beach。 Now, on the occasion of her fortieth high school reunion, she returns to her hometown on the Massachusetts coast, picking up right where she left off with dear friends Lydia and Emma。 But seeing Brett Crawford again stirs other emotions。 Once, they were the town’s golden couple destined for one another。 He shared Maggie’s dreams—and eventually, a shattering secret that drove them apart。

Buying her old family home and resettling in Wyndham Beach means a chance to start over for Maggie and her two daughters, but it also means facing her rekindled feelings for her first love and finally confronting—and embracing—the past in ways she never thought possible。 Maggie won’t be alone。 With her family and friends around her, she can weather this stormy turning point in her life and open her heart to the future。 As for that dream shared and lost years ago? If Maggie can forgive herself, it still might come true。

I liked the storyline but felt it was too wordy and an excess of descriptive words that didn’t really need to be there。 I found myself skimming through whole paragraphs to get to the point。 It had a really slow start and kind of felt like you were never going to get to the next part of the story。 Other than that I mostly enjoyed it and it was a good read to pass time。

Reliving SummerThis was a change for me I found the beginning a little slow。 High School reunions so many do not stay in touch if they have a life elsewhere unless friendships have been maintained。 The bond between the friends was strong。 The changing dynamics of relationships with family were interesting and the secret hidden and unacknowledged was unexpected。The descriptions of the setting of the return to roots was spectacular。 In the end a new beginning with I expect more to come

Great Book, I couldn't put it downFirst, I loved the 40th reunion thing meaning 1980 was their graduating year。 I graduated in 1979 so a lot of things were familiar。 The book is well written and the characters are developed so I could picture each one。 But I kept giving Maggie brown hair instead of blonde! LOL。 The only bad part is I won't be reading Part 2 immediately! February 2022 seems so long away! 🙂 Great Book, I couldn't put it downFirst, I loved the 40th reunion thing meaning 1980 was their graduating year。 I graduated in 1979 so a lot of things were familiar。 The book is well written and the characters are developed so I could picture each one。 But I kept giving Maggie brown hair instead of blonde! This is the first book in Mariah Stewart's new Wyndham Beach Series。 So if you're looking for a new series to read, you can begin at the beginning! The story centers around Maggie Flynn and her two best friends from childhood, Lydia and Emma。 The trio grew-up in Wyndham Beach, Massachusetts, and two of the friends remained there after college。 Maggie moved to Philadelphia, married a lawyer, and reared two daughters。 The plot begins when Maggie returns to her hometown for her fortieth high school This is the first book in Mariah Stewart's new Wyndham Beach Series。 So if you're looking for a new series to read, you can begin at the beginning! The story centers around Maggie Flynn and her two best friends from childhood, Lydia and Emma。 The trio grew-up in Wyndham Beach, Massachusetts, and two of the friends remained there after college。 Maggie moved to Philadelphia, married a lawyer, and reared two daughters。 The plot begins when Maggie returns to her hometown for her fortieth high school reunion。 She is very happy to spend time with her friends, yet she's anxious about running into her high school boyfriend Brett: He broke her heart, and a part of her never recovered。There are also sub-plots that focus on Maggie's daughters who are in their early thirties (Grace and Natalie)。 Both of these intelligent young women have made a few very poor choices, especially with men。 Grace, an attorney at her father's law firm now run by Maggie, pines for her ex-husband who cheated on her with a paralegal。 Both her ex Zach and the slut paralegal Amber still work at the firm。 Grace was the last to know about the affair。。。。everyone else at the law firm had knowledge of it, so she decides to start a blog entitled Last2Know。 The purpose of the blog is for women who have been cheated on by their significant others can vent in a safe space。 This plot line is so cringe-worthy。 I'm one of those readers who truly gets embarrassed for characters who humiliate themselves。。。I literally cringe! Natalie is a community college professor teaching remedial English and creative writing。 She was married to a man who becomes an addict during their marriage and leaves her once she discovers she's pregnant。 *heavy sigh*Overall, I liked the book, and I want to know what happens with a few of the secondary characters like Emma's only son Chris, a famous rockstar and talented musician。 I have no idea who will be the focus of the next book because there are several directions in which the next installment can go。 My only gripe about the book is this:SPOILER ALERT! STOP READING NOW IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ A SPOILER。One of the characters who is forty years old (almost at the end of the book) mentions that his parents and his wife (all three healthcare workers) "died during last year's pandemic。" This is the ONLY MENTION of the pandemic in the book。 It was jarring。 I understand that there is controversy about whether or not the pandemic should be mentioned in works of fiction, and my vote is a resounding NO! When I read fiction, I want an escape。 It seemed like it was just added as an afterthought since it was not mentioned anywhere else in the book。 It was probably an editorial decision, but it was a poor one。 I'm docking a star for it!END OF SPOILERConclusion: If you are looking for a light beach read about the bonds of friendship, family drama, assertively emotional characters, and a beautiful seaside setting, you should enjoy An Invincible Summer。 。。。more

If I had to choose one word to describe what this book is about, it would be Life。 Lifelong friendships, unexpected changes that pull the rug from under you feet and make your world tumble over, families with their complex dynamics, second chances in love, growing into yourself and discovering your own strength, coming home wherever it is and whatever it means to you。Maggie Flynn is coming back to her home town of Wyndham Beach, Massachusets, for her fortieth school reunion。 She has been widowed If I had to choose one word to describe what this book is about, it would be Life。 Lifelong friendships, unexpected changes that pull the rug from under you feet and make your world tumble over, families with their complex dynamics, second chances in love, growing into yourself and discovering your own strength, coming home wherever it is and whatever it means to you。Maggie Flynn is coming back to her home town of Wyndham Beach, Massachusets, for her fortieth school reunion。 She has been widowed for two years after having given her all totaking care of her terminally ill husband。 Maggie and her friends Lydia and Emma finally have a chance to spend some time together。 Even Maggie's best friends don't know what exactly happened forty years ago to split the golden couple of their school, the Prom King and Queen, Brett Crowford and Maggie。 It is clear that the old hurt is still there, when Maggie gets very upset about being asked to dance with Brett。 We also get a gimpse into Maggie's grown-up daughters' lives, who have also had their disappointments in love and marriage and who are trying to move on。The writing was extremely engaging。 The conversations between the three friends sounded realistic。 The characters are well-differentiated and the same is true for Grace and Natalie, Maggie's daughters。 While I appreciated having all these different generations and their perspectives, what made this book so attractive was it's focus on Maggie and her life, both in the past and the present。 Her age group tends to get little (or at least not enough) representation in romance and it was nice to read this well-written exception。I loved the way Mariah Stewart showed the atmosphere of a little seaside town。 Emma and Liddy have lived all their lives in Wyndham。 They got married and raised their children there。 They also suffered through their own personal tragedies。 Maggie made a choice to leave。 It wasn't for better or worse, just different, and she can make a new choice now, as she is at standing at a new kind of crossroads。For anyone who loves stories with strong, realistic female protagonists, complicated friendship and family dynamics, and a small town setting。 Can't wait to read Book 2 in Wyndham Beach series。Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for the ARC provided in exchange for an honest opinion。 。。。more

I really liked this bookThis, for me, was the perfect book to escape into with all that has been going on in our world。 Three women, Maggie, Emma and Liddy grew up together n remained life long friends。 It’s a story of family and how certain life decisions alter the course of your life。 I was never bored reading this book n wished the second one in this series was available,I would have purchased it right away。 I have friends who might call it sappy but it was what I needed。 I hope you enjoy it I really liked this bookThis, for me, was the perfect book to escape into with all that has been going on in our world。 Three women, Maggie, Emma and Liddy grew up together n remained life long friends。 It’s a story of family and how certain life decisions alter the course of your life。 I was never bored reading this book n wished the second one in this series was available,I would have purchased it right away。 I have friends who might call it sappy but it was what I needed。 I hope you enjoy it as much as I did。 。。。more

I am a longtime fan of Mariah Stewarts' small-town/domestic drama stories。 I’ve always found myself very invested in the lives of her characters and I love that they are flawed and very relatable。 An Invincible Summer features Maggie Flynn as she returns to Rhode Island to celebrate her fortieth high school reunion with best friends Liddy and Emma。 She is later joined by daughters Natalie and Grace, who have both experienced recent heartaches。 For the family, this is most certainly a transformat I am a longtime fan of Mariah Stewarts' small-town/domestic drama stories。 I’ve always found myself very invested in the lives of her characters and I love that they are flawed and very relatable。 An Invincible Summer features Maggie Flynn as she returns to Rhode Island to celebrate her fortieth high school reunion with best friends Liddy and Emma。 She is later joined by daughters Natalie and Grace, who have both experienced recent heartaches。 For the family, this is most certainly a transformative summer all around。 Mariah Stewarts' impeccable storytelling sets the scene。 It was so easy to picture the town and the characters。 The story is well-plotted and the hints that Maggie has a secret and being back in Rhode Island certainly brings up memories and people that she's really not ready to deal with。 With both daughters there for extended stays, we get their backstories and see how the three women interact and are there for each other。 There are some very trying times but we see how they come together as a unit to face their pasts and move forward with hope and love。 This is a lovely story about second chances and the many forms they come in。An invincible summer is a "new to me" phrase and after looking it up I see just how perfect it is as a title for this story。 I’m already excited to see what and who the next book in this new series will be about, and to catch back up with these characters。 5 Stars and recommendation。*I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review* 。。。more

I did not know anything about Mariah Stewart or An Invincible Summer before I began reading, but something in the description appealed。 Starting the first page, I slipped straight into the story as the writing carried me away。 An Invincible Summer switches between Philadelphia and Massachusets, between city and beach and between homes that symbolise two parts of Maggie’s life。 This is the story of Maddie, a widow living in Philadelphia, and her two daughters, Grace and Natalie。 At the start of t I did not know anything about Mariah Stewart or An Invincible Summer before I began reading, but something in the description appealed。 Starting the first page, I slipped straight into the story as the writing carried me away。 An Invincible Summer switches between Philadelphia and Massachusets, between city and beach and between homes that symbolise two parts of Maggie’s life。 This is the story of Maddie, a widow living in Philadelphia, and her two daughters, Grace and Natalie。 At the start of the story Maddie is travelling to Wynham Beach, the scene of her childhood, for a school reunion。 Over the course of the weekend old memories surface, familiar faces flood her present and start reflections on her future as she wonders about her value and future role。 Grace is a lawyer who works in the family law firm and is rebuilding her life after her husband humiliated her, leaving her for a fellow employee。 Natalie is a single Mum to the gorgeous Daisy, and is a teacher with a big heart。 Throw in two of Maggie’s childhood friends and we have a cast of strong female characters who make this such a great story。 There is so much I loved about this read。 The setting of Wyndham Beach is gorgeous, I could smell the sea air, feel the warmth of the sun as the women took their coffee and sat watching the horizon。 I could feel Maggie’s pull to return to her roots。 I loved the female relationships in the book。 Maggie is a strong but supportive Mother, who brings her children through crises but holds out for her own choices, and the independence of her own life。 The gatherings with her friends are glorious - tattoos, rock concerts and the warmth of conversations between women who really know and understand each other。 I loved that this was not all neatly resolved and packaged up in an ending。。I cannot wait to return to Wyndham Beach though and discover what happens to them all。 This was such a celebration of life and especially a celebration of women of ALL ages。 With thanks to Netgalley and Montlake for a digital copy of this lovely book。 。。。more

Just what I neededA story of mothers, adult children, and the way life treats them when they have plans of their own and try to implement them。 There was a lot of honesty in this book - feelings unleashed and imperfections exposed。 Just what I needed。

This book could have been written with half the amount of pages。 It started off with potential, I really wanted to like it。 It had a lot of "fluff"。My favorite character is one of the supporting characters, Chris。 It's not that the main characters (Maggie and her daughters) weren't likable, they were, but they were fairly annoying after a while。 This book could have been written with half the amount of pages。 It started off with potential, I really wanted to like it。 It had a lot of "fluff"。My favorite character is one of the supporting characters, Chris。 It's not that the main characters (Maggie and her daughters) weren't likable, they were, but they were fairly annoying after a while。 。。。more

An absolutely wonderful and beautifully written story!I guess you could say that Maggie is the central character, but what I thought was unique about this is that all the characters have their own stories。。。 And what stories they are! I really did enjoy this book。 The author managed to bring together a wide cast of characters in an easily understood manner。 I particularly liked it because the main character was an older (age 58) woman who, after caring for her husband through illness and death, resumed her life。 The story also focused on Charlotte's daughters and the mess they had made, at some point, of their lives yet survived。 It also showed how mothers will always "mother;" no matter how old our children get, they are sti I really did enjoy this book。 The author managed to bring together a wide cast of characters in an easily understood manner。 I particularly liked it because the main character was an older (age 58) woman who, after caring for her husband through illness and death, resumed her life。 The story also focused on Charlotte's daughters and the mess they had made, at some point, of their lives yet survived。 It also showed how mothers will always "mother;" no matter how old our children get, they are still our babies。Charlotte was one of the lucky ones who maintained friendships with her lifelong friends in the small beach town where they grew up。 Charlotte left and lived in Philly but would return in summers to her family home and when her daughters came along, brought them along。 Yet while the three ladies were close friends, they had not shared everything with each other。。。some things are meant to be kept to oneself。We see in this story that family can be quite fluid and the dynamics of a family can change and grow。 That certainly happened within this story。 However, the things that occur within Charlotte's family might not happen if a family is not open to change; if love does not stretch to surround a changing definition of one's family。Charlotte's daughters learn early what it is like to fall from a pedestal。。。that success or a strong family does not protect one from possible failure or embarrassment。 Liddy was a single mother and a teacher at a community college。 Years ago, her situation would have not been accepted but how nice to see it a part of a story and even though it is acknowledged that it was tough for her, it was also obvious that she was in a good place。 Grace, a young attorney, discovered how one's actions following her disastrous actions following her split and subsequent divorce。 When it seems life is at its worst and she will never resume her career, earlier interests offer new pathways。Another plus to the characters was that it was shown that it was never too late to start over or to take that other road when the first one didn't quite work out as planned。 I like seeing women take on new careers, no matter their age。 It is wonderful to see positive role models set forth in books where women make changes in their lives, often following a lifelong dream。While I love to read books with older characters, it dawned on me that usually, these women have money from one source or another。 Often it is that a spouse has passed and left her money or she is from a family with money。 What about real women? Can they find a new life after the age of 50 or so? Must one have an abundance of money to start over? I think it would be nice to see more books where women "of a certain age" without unlimited funds are able to continue or start a rich, fulfilling life。 。。。more
